What is Loren?
Loren is a restaurant in The Palm Jumeirah, Dubai. Rectangle Interiors took it from concept design through construction, including the bar and the bespoke millwork. Work in a managed community runs to the developer's approvals and contractor access rules.
Designed and built by one team.
Loren is a dining room built for daylight — arched openings, a coffered ceiling, planting brought inside, and a mix of cane and painted metal seating around white-clothed tables. It is designed to read as a garden room rather than a restaurant floor.
The joinery and the fitted furniture were made in our own workshop, inside an interior and fit-out delivered on Palm Jumeirah.
A room built for daylight has to work after dark as well, which puts the weight on the lighting design: arched openings and a coffered ceiling read one way at noon and need to be lit deliberately to read at all in the evening.
The lighting was designed alongside the joinery rather than after it, since a room built for daylight has to be deliberately lit to hold its character in the evening.
