What is Marea?
Marea is a restaurant in DIFC, Dubai. Rectangle Interiors took it from concept design through construction, including the bar and the bespoke millwork. A DIFC address means the fit-out is approved through the district's own authority.
Designed and built by one team.
Marea is a New York restaurant brought to DIFC. The transplant is the interesting part: the room has to be recognisably itself while working within a Dubai building, a Dubai operator's requirements and a Dubai licensing regime.
DIFC approvals were carried as part of the scope, alongside the interior, the construction and the fitted joinery.
Transplanting a restaurant means deciding what is essential to the original and what was simply a consequence of its old building. The parts that are essential get rebuilt exactly; the rest is redesigned for a DIFC floor plate.
The bar, the screens and the fitted seating were built in our own workshop to the dimensions the new room actually offered.
