What is Oni Japanese Restaurant?
Oni Japanese Restaurant is a restaurant in Shangri-La Hotel, Sheikh Zayed Road, Dubai. Rectangle Interiors took it from concept design through construction, including the bar and the bespoke millwork. The work was carried out inside an operating property, in the access windows it allowed.
Designed and built by one team.
Oni sits within the Shangri-La on Sheikh Zayed Road. A Japanese restaurant puts unusual weight on precision — the joinery tolerances and the quality of the timber work are visible in a way they are not in a busier interior.
The millwork was made in our own workshop, where that level of finish could be controlled, within an interior and construction package delivered together.
A Japanese room puts the counter at the centre of the operation, so its dimensions, height and sightlines are design decisions rather than furniture choices. Inside the Shangri-La, the build works to the hotel's own access and approval regime.
The counter was set out full size and checked against working sightlines before it was built, since it is furniture the operation depends on rather than decoration.
