What is Jin Yi?
Jin Yi is a restaurant in Chinatown, Dubai Mall. Rectangle Interiors took it from concept design through construction, including the bar and the bespoke millwork. As a mall unit it was built to the landlord's fit-out guidelines and handed over against a fixed opening date.

Jin Yi sits in the Chinatown section of Dubai Mall, a themed retail environment with its own visual language. A restaurant there has to belong to that setting without being absorbed by it.
Dubai Mall's fit-out windows and delivery restrictions set the programme, and the build — interior, fit-out and millwork — was sequenced around them.
A themed retail environment sets a visual standard the unit has to answer to, alongside the mall's fit-out guidelines and its overnight working hours. The frontage matters disproportionately because most trade is passing rather than booked.
The screens, the frontage joinery and the fitted seating were made in our own workshop, which is how repeated decorative elements stay identical across a room.
