What is Manolo Blahnik?
Manolo Blahnik is a footwear boutique in Dubai Mall. Rectangle Interiors delivered the fit-out, the shopfitting and the display joinery. As a mall unit it was built to the landlord's fit-out guidelines and handed over against a fixed opening date.
Designed and built by one team.
This is a brand-controlled environment. The specification comes from Manolo Blahnik and the fit-out's job is to deliver it exactly, in a location the brand has not built in before. There is very little latitude and no tolerance for approximation.
We built it in Dubai Mall to the brand's drawings, producing the joinery and display work in our own workshop. Mall fit-out windows are short and closely policed, and the programme was set by them.
In a brand-controlled environment the specification arrives fixed, and the work is executing it exactly within a unit that was not drawn for it. Materials are often nominated, which makes lead times part of the programme rather than an afterthought.
Nominated materials were ordered against the programme rather than the drawing, because on a brand-controlled fit-out lead times are usually what decides the opening date.
