Quick answer

What is The Opus Tower by Zaha Hadid?

The Opus Tower by Zaha Hadid is an office fit-out in Business Bay. Rectangle Interiors delivered the space planning, the fit-out and the bespoke joinery. The fit-out was designed inside the building's shell and approved against the landlord's rules.

The project

Designed and built by one team.

The Opus is a Zaha Hadid Architects building and its interiors are not conventionally shaped — the geometry is the point. Fitting a working office into it means the joinery and the partitions have to follow the architecture rather than fight it.

We designed and built the workplace inside that envelope, making the joinery to measure because very little in a building like this is a standard dimension.

In a building with no repeating geometry, almost nothing can be bought to a standard size. Walls curve, soffits fall away and few junctions repeat, so the fit-out is measured and made rather than specified from a catalogue.

That is the case for a workshop: every fitted element was set out from site dimensions and built to them, because in this building an off-the-shelf carcass would not meet the wall it was fixed to.
